In Brief: Pietro Maximoff is the son of the mutant called Magneto and the gypsy named Magda. Just prior to his birth, his mother fled from his father, terrified of the bizarre powers he suddenly manifested and his intentions of world domination. Seeking refuge in the scientific citadel of Wundagore in the Balkan Mountains of the tiny nation of Transia. Magda was taken in by Bova. a woman evolved from a cow by fhe master of genetic acceleration. the High Evolutionary Magda gave birth to twins. a boy and a girl, with Bova as her midwife. Still afraid Magda left Bova her children and walked away to perish. Bova was relieved when several nights later, an American couple vacationing in Europe, Robert and Madeline Frank, also came to Wundagore seeking midwife assistance. Bova intended to award the couple the days-old twins to raise along with their own newborn Unfortunately, the couple's child was stillborn, and Madeline died in childbirth. Frank fled from Wundagore upon hearing of his wife's death. Nearly insane with grief, Bova then presented the twins to her master, the High Evolutionary, who agreed to find foster parents for them.
The High Evolutionary found Django and Marya Maximoff, a gypsy couple camped nearby who had lost their own twin children, Ana and Mateo, during World War II. They cared for the children as their own. As adolescents. Wanda and Pietro discovered that they had peculiar talents. When Django began to steal food to feed his starving family, enraged villagers attacked the gypsy camp. Using his phenomenal speed, Pietro fled from the camp with his sister. The next few years, Wanda and Pietro wandered central Europe, living off the land.
One day, Wanda accidentally caused a house to burst into flames with her uncontrollable hex powers, and was chased by superstitious lownspeople. Despite Pietro's attempt to defend her, the pair were soon overpowered They were about to lynched when Magneto came to their rescue. Unaware that he was their natural father, Magneto pressed them into service in his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. costumed them. and named them the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. For months they served Magneto out of a sense of obligation and fear of retaliation if they left him. When the extraterrestrial Stranger transported Magneto from Earth, the Scarlet Witch and Ouicksilver left the Brotherhood and petitioned for membership in the Avengers. When the Scarlet Witch began to become romantically involved with the Vision, Quicksilver condemned her relationship with a pseudo-human synthozoid, causing their first major rift. The rift was mended, some time after the Scarlet Witch married fhe Vision, when the telepath Moondragon permanently altered Quicksilver's prejudice toward the Vision in a self-righteous employment of her powers.
Quicksilver left the Avengers under mysterious circumstances while the group was engaged in battle with the mutant-hunting Sentinels. Sustaining injuries in battle. Quicksilver was taken to medical care by the Inhuman named Crystal. whose dimension-spanning com panion Lockjaw happened upon the scene of the battle. Months passed before Quicksilver was well enough to contact his companions to tell them of his circumstances. Quicksilver became romantically involved with his rescuer Crystal, and the two married after a brief courtship. The wedding, held in the Himalayan refuge of Attilan, was attended by the Inhumans, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four. Quicksilver tendered his resignation to the Avengers in order to remain with his wife.
Not long after fhe birth of his and Crystal's first child, Luna, he learned the truth about his parentage. Quicksilver denounced Magneto for his callous treatment of them when they were members of his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and refused fo believe he had amended his megalomaniacal ways. Eventually however, Magneto appeared to be reforming, and Quicksilver relented in his resentment for his nafural father
A man of action, Quicksilver volunteered his services to the head of the Inhumans' small militia and became an officer. During his period of service, however, the Inhumans had no call for military activity. His neglect of his wife Crystal led her to become involved with another man. Learning of her infidelity. Quicksilver refused to forgive her and fled Attilan. vowing vengeance.
Piefro has briefly allied himself with the Hungarian government, and has assisted them in the development of techniques to create superpowered individuals. He now seemed believes fully in mutant supremacy and intended to rule the world as its "Mutant King".
But also this was not his way, and when Mr.Sinister somehow turned his powers against him he found help in, and later joined, the newly formed government team X-Factor.
He left X-Factor to spend more time with his wife, and although they had many problems they eventually reconciled only to have her 'killed' in the Onslaught incident.
Filled with grief, he and his daughter found refuge with Bova and the High Evolutionary when the Acolytes, led by Exodus attacked Mount Wundagore to get Luna. Quicksilver and the Knights of Wundagore repelled the Acolytes and were forced to flee Mount Wundagore. They eventually settled in New York where they fought a drugged Thundra and Arkon.
When Crystal returned from the Heroes Reborn universe they went to the Inhumans on the moon where Quicksilver was given a rather cold reception. Maximus used this to again posses Quicksilver (on orders of Exodus) and attack the Inhumans. Finally Crystal, Wanda and Quicksilver were forced to fight the other Inhumans destroying much of Attilan in the process.

In Brief: Herben Edgar Wyndham was formerly a student attending Oxford University in the 1930's who built a machine capable of accelerating the genetic evolution of living organisms. His first test subject was his pet dog which he managed to evolve into a creature who stood upright and had the intelligence of a chimpanzee. (The dog was acci- dentally killed by a hunter) His experiments having provoked anger and hostility among his peers, Wyndham left the university to build a research center where he could cany on his experiments without detractors. Joined by his friend Jonathan Drew, who specialized in the study of arthropods, Wyndham found the site for his facility on Wundagore Mountain in Transia, a country near Yugoslavia where Drew's wife was born. The two men purchased atract of land on the mountain and discovered a rich uranium deposit on their property which they converted into working capital In a matter of years, they built a citadel of advanced scientific research. Wyndham's work centered on the improvement of his genetic accelerator while Drew studied spiders' natural immunological resistance to radiation. Subjecting himself to his own machine, Wyndham began to accelerate his own intellectual capacity, enabling him to make increasingly greater discoveries.
Wyndham's partnership with Drew began to fray when Drew's younger daughter Jessica was stricken with radiation poisoning due to prolonged exposure to uranium. Though both scientists pooled their skills to try to save her, the treatment required years of constant radiation-therapy during which time the young girl had to be placed in cryogenic suspension. When Drews wife Merriem disappeared during her weekly trip to the Village for supplies (Wyndham learned that she had been killed by a wolf-like beast but withheld that information from his friend), Drew became so despondent that he departed Wundagore. leaving his daughter in Wyndham's custody.
Beginning to believe in the supernatural legends of the natives, Wyndham devised a suit of protective armor. He then began to procure and genetically accelerate both domestic and wild animals into "New Men", animals with humanaid posture and intelligence. Among the first of his New Men were Bova, a cow-woman. Porga, a pigman, and Tagar, a tiger-man. With the assistance of the ghost of the Sixth Century magician Magnus. Wyndham trained the menagerie of New Men in the arts of chivalry and combat of the Sixth Century. Thus he founded the Order of the Knights of Wundagore to protect his realm from certain native sorcerous foes. Wyndham himself had assumed the title of Lord High Evolutionary. Decades later, the High Evolutionary converted his citadel into a spaceship and set forth with his knights for the stars. feeling that Earth was too confining for them. He left behind only three of his subjects. Jessica Drew (who had gained spider-like powers from her treatment), the girl's nanny, Bova, and the evil cat man, Tabur.
Eventually the High Evolutionary deposited the Knights on their own planet (called Wundagare II) and released them from his service. He then built himself a small moonlike satellite and embarked upon the most ambitious project of his life, the construction of a detailed replica of Earth. Creating the world out of debris from the asteroid belt, the Evolutionary posi tioned if in the Earth's orbit, on the opposite side of the sun from the Earth. The High Evolutionary called the world Counter-Earth and for years watched over it as its "god". Then, when he reposed in his ultimately- evolved state. Counter-Earth was towed out of its orbit by the Planet-Movers of Pegasus, an extraterrestrial company of contractors. Curious as to the nature of the beings who hired them, the Evolutionary accompanied the Pegasusians to the world of the Beyonders. These beings are not to be con fused with the Beyonder of the "secret wars". He saw the crowning achieve- ment of his life placed on display in a museum of curiosities and became numbed by the superiority of the Beyonders. Going mad, he attempted suicide, but the sophisticated circuitry of his armor had been designed to protect him from all bodily harm. He then returned to Eallh, hoping to find some~ thing strong enough to destroy his armor and end his misery.
The High Evolutionary found such a being in the Hulk, whom he cajoled into wrecking his armor. The Hulk succeeded in demolishing most but not all of the Evolutionary's armor, just enough so that the Evolutionary could devolve into a mass of one-celled-organisms. But as long as the Evolionary's armor con- tains the complete genetic information for its manufacture, the High Evolution- ary's condtion is reversible. It is only a matter of time before its microcircuits reorganize themselves and restore the High Evolutionary to his previous state.
He was indeed eventually restored and even cured of his insanity. He returned to Wundagore but was driven away when Exodus attacked at the moment that most of the High Evolutionary's power was focussed on one of his project. He decided to leave Earth and left his knights in the care of Quicksilver.

In Brief: Crystal was the second child of Inhuman nutritionists Quelin and Ambur. Quelin was brother to Rynda, wife of Agan, the Inhuman's king, and as such, Crystal was considered part of the Royal Family of Attilan Like her older sister Medusa. Crystal was subjected to the Terrigren Mist while she was still an infant. The process endowed her with her ellemental powers.
Civil war erupted when she was a child, and Crystal fled Attilan with her kinsmen. Crystal grew to adulthood while traveling with her family on their search for the lost Medusa When they finally discovered Me- dusa in Manhattan. Medusa mistook them for enemies and fled to the sanctuary offered by the Fantastic Four. Although the two groups fought, the mistake was soon corrected and they became lifetime friends. It was then that Crystal first met Johnny Storm, the second Human Torch.They began a lengthy, intermittent, long-distance courtship Crystal eventually returned to Manhattan to serve as a substitute member of the Fantastic Four during Sue Richards' pregnancy leave. Unfortunately, during this period, if was discovered that the Inhumans were developing an allergy to industrial pollutants Crystal was forced to return to Attilan.
En route she encountered Diablo. Then discovered the wounded Quicksilver. She brought Ouicksilver back to Attilan where she nursed him back to health and fell in love. When the Human Torch discovered the change in her affections, he engaged in a futile battle with his rival. In despair and anger, he cut his bonds with Crystal. She and Quicksilver wed soon afterward. in the first recorded marriage between an Inhuman and a human (albeit a mutant). Their first child, a girl they named Luna, was born soon after Attilan relocated to the Moons Blue Area.
Luna became the source of antagonism between her parents Her Inhuman genes had negated her mutant gene's potential for super· powers Quicksilver wanted to exercise a father's right to expose Luna to the Terrigen Mist in the hope that she would develop powers of her own. Only Lockjaw's admission that he had been born in human form (which was later proven to be false) stayed Ouicksilver's hand. The marriage began to deteriorate Quicksilver's angry tirades against humans alienated Crystal. Although she was forbidden by Atti- lan law to divorce him. she left both Quicksilver and Attilan With Luna and nanny Maya in tow. Crysta returned to the Fantastic Four and the recently married Johnny Storm. Crystal was no longer the nave girl who readily acceded to others wishes During her stay with the FF Crystal demonstrated that she had become a hardened, even ruthless combatant. She also wanted Johnny back. although she resisted making overt plays toward him Eventualy her family duty won out over her independence She returned to Attilan to deal with the crisis posed by Medusa and Back Bolt's child. Amidst the troubles, she and Quicksiver reconciled.
But still not all was well, and when they again split up, Crystal joined the Avengers. She became involved with Black Knight, who was also somehow bonded with Sersi.
But when Quicksilver returned they eventually reconciled again and this time it seemed to last. When she was then 'killed' by Onslaught Quicksilver was grief-strucken. After the Heroes Return Crystal and Quicksilver went to Attilan where Quicksilver was again possesed by Maximus (it was revealed that most of the earlier troubles were Maximus' fault.). After being freed of his influence Crystal and Quicksilver battled side by side against the possesed Inhumans. Only time will tell if their relationship will hold now with Crystal an Avenger and Quicksilver leader of the Knights.

In Brief: Black Bolt was born to two of Attilan's top geneticists, Agon, head of the ruling Council of Genetics, and Rynda. director of the Prenatal Care Center Subjected to the mutagenic Terrigen Mist while still an embryo, Bolt was born wifh strange powers surpassing even the Inhumans' norm. As an infant, he demonstrated certain energy-manipulative abilities which he could not yet control. particularly that of producing quasisonic energy of great destructive potential. To protect the community, he was placed inside a sound- proofed chamber and given an energy-harnessing suit There he was schooled in the art of controlling his powers until the age of nineteen. when he was permitted to enter society.
A month after being awarded his freedom, Black Bolt discovered his younger brother Maximus in the process of making a treacherous pact with emissaries of the alien Kree. Attempting to stop the Kree ship before it escaped, Bolt used the forbidden power of his quasi-sonic voice to knock the ship out of the sky When the ship crashed to Eanh. it landed on the parliament building, killing several key members of the Council of Genetics, including his parents. Agon and Rynda. The reverberations of his brother's shout affected Maximus's sanity and suppressed his nascent mental powers. Despite his guilt and silent protests, Black Bolt was obligated to accept the mantle of leadership of the Inhumans at the age of twenty.
Black Bolt's first crisis in leadership came when his cousin Triton was briefly held captive by humans. Learning of Triton's encounter upon his escape. Black Bolt decided that the Inhumans' island of Attilan was in imminent danger of discovery by humanity Black Bolt scouted out possibile sites to which to move, and settled on the remote Himalayan mountains. After the great migration. Black Bolt faced his second great cri- sis when his now mad brother Maximus unleashed the Trikon, three of the Inhumans' worker drones who were transformed into energy beings. The Trikon enabled Maximus to wrest the rule of the Inhumans from his brother and send Black Bolt and the other members of the Royal Family into exile. For the next few years. Black Bolt and his kinsmen wandered Asia, Europe, and finally the Americas, in search of Medusa. his betrothed mate, who had been separated tram the others during the battle wifh the Trikon. Eventualy Black Bolt was reunited with Medusa and the Royal Family returned to Attilan and resumed the crown.
Black Bolt has led the Inhumans through some of the most turbulent times in their history, including several more attempts fo by Maximus to usurp the throne, revolts by the worker class, attacks by human renegades, the kidnaping of Medusa. The destruction and rebuilding of Attilan, the revelation of the Inhumans' existence to humanity, and finally the second relocation of Attilan. Recently, following the traditionally lengthy period of betroth, Black Bolt and Medusa were wed.

In Brief: Medusa was the first of two children born to the Inhuman nutritionists Quelin and Ambur Her father Quelin was the brother of Rynda, wife of Agon, king of the Inhumans, and as such she has been considered part of the Royal Family Medusa's parents elected to expose her to the mutagenic Terrigen Mist when she was an infant and the process endowed her with hair that she could animate like added appendages.
While still in adolescence, she began to make frequent visits to the isolation cell of her second cousin, Black Bolt, and learned to communicate with him in a special sign language. Medusa and Black Bolt developed a special bond between them that blossomed into love when Black Bolt was first allowed out of his cell at the age of eighteen. In the aftermath of the first coming of the Trikon. Medusa left the Inhumans' Great Refuge. Afflicted with amnesia sustained in an air crash, the Inhuman wandered Europe, committing petty thefts to get food to survive. Her animated hair soon brought her unwanted attention and eventually the American criminal called the Wizard heard rumors of her. Locating Medusa in Paris. the Wizard brought her to America and enlisted her in the Frightful Four, a band of criminals he had organized. Grateful to the Wizard, Medusa went along with the criminal activities of the Frightful Four When the group battled the Fantastic Four, all but Medusa were captured. Medusa's public exploits enabled Black Bolt and the other members of the Royal Family to locate her. Seeing them again restored her memory. and they were all taken back to the Great Refuge by the Seeker, an agent of Maximus.
When Black Bolt regained the throne, Medusa renewed her betrothal to him and served as his royal interpreter She has remained at his side seeing the Inhumans through one of their most tumultuous periods in history Medusa has taken short journeys from the Inhumans' base Anilan without Black Bolt. once when she engaged Spider-Man in battle, another time to thwart the reunion of the Frightful Four. Otherwise she has only left his side for a period of months only twice. The first time she joined the Fantastic Four to take the Invisible Girl's place on the team during her estrangement from her husband.The second time,she was taken captive by the criminal Enclave, who sought to conquer Attilan.

In Brief: Gorgon was the only son born to the Inhuman architect Korath and the archivist Milena. leading citizens of the their city-state, Attilan. Korath was a brother to Agon, king of the Inhumans, and thus his son Gorgon is considered part of the Royal Family of Attilan Like most of the new generation of the Royal Family. Gorgon was subjected to the Terrigen Mist when he was an infant, and the process endowed him with certain physical adaptations and powers. Gorgon's parents were killed in the war against the Trikon, three of the Inhumans' worker drones who were transformed into energy-beings.
During this war, Gorgon was forced to flee Attilan along with the deposed ruler Black Bolt and other members of the Royal Family For years. Gorgon and his companions wandered Asia, Europe, and finally America in search of their kinsman Medusa, who was separated from them. When they finally found her in New York, Medusa mistook Gorgon for her enemy. having suffered tram amnesia during her exile. Gorgon was forced to battle the Fantastic Four, among whom she sought protection. The misunderstanding was soon resolved, and Gorgon and the Royal Family returned to Attilan where his cousin, Black Bolt, resumed his rightful rule. Gorgon has remained one of Black Bolt's most trusted aides and one of Attilan's staunchest defenders ever since.

Karnak was enrolled in his father's religious seminary in the Tower of Wisdom where he trained in various physical and mental disciplines until he was 18 years old Karnak's mother died in a mysterious undersea mishap. Demihuman body (pisean): The Terrigen Mist gave Triton's body a fishlike appearance. Although his overall body shape remains human, his epidermis is covered in fine, green scales and his internal organs are modified to meet the needs of an aquatic existance:

In Brief: Triton is the eldest of two sons born to teh Inhuman priest/philosopher named Mander and his wife Azur. Triton was placed in the Terrigen Mist when he reached one year of age, and emerged with a number of aquatic mutations. No longer able to breathe air, the young Triton was raised in a specially designed alcove on the shore of the island Attilan. Triton's mother, a biologist, undertook the study of ocean biology in order to understand and care for her son. Eventually a cumbersome breathing apparatus was designed to enable Triton to survive out of water for extended periods of time.
Triton's mother Azur died in an undersea mishap when he was fourteen. Four years later, Triton became an undersea scout for the Inhuman, keeping watch over human ocean-going traffic in the vicinity. When Triton was captured by sailors, Black Bolt decided that Attilan was in danger of human discovery. Attilan was subsequently moved twice, first to the Himalayas, then to the moon, neither side being close to water. Triton now occupies his time exploring the ancient subterranean water tunnels beneath the moon's Blue City. He occasionally teleports to Earth by means of Lockjaw's power, to swim the oceans and renew old friendships such as that with Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner.

In Brief: Wanda Maximoff was the daughter of the mutant later known as Magneto and a gypsy woman named Magda. Just prior to her birth, her mother fled from her father, terrified of the bizarre powers he suddenly manifested and his intentions of world domination. Seeking refuge in the scientific citadel of Wundagore in the Balkan Mountains of the tiny nation of Transia, Magda was taken in by Bova, a woman evolved from a cow by the master of genetic acceleration, the High Evolutionary. Magda gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. with Bova as her midwife. Still afraid that her husband might find her and learn of the children, Magda left Bova a note explaining her fears. and walked into the frozen mountain wilderness to perish. Feeling that it was not right to raise two seemingly normal babies in the environment of the evolved animal-men of Wundagore, Bova was relieved when several nights later, an American couple vacationing in Europe, Robert and Madeline Frank, also came to Wundagore seeking assistance with a birth. Bova intended to award the couple the days-old twins to raise along with their own newborn Unfortunately, the couple's child was stillborn, and Madeline died in childbirth. Bova presented Robert Frank with the twins, representing them as his own natural children, in the hope it would assuage his grief. Frank, refusing the children, fled from Wundagore nearly insane with grief. (Years later, Frank and the children would come to believe that he was their natural father) Bova then presented the twins to her master. the High Evolutionary, who agreed to find human foster parents for them The High Evolutionary did find such parents for them in the persons of Django and Marya Maximoff, a gypsy couple camped nearby who had lost their own twin children, Ana and Maleo, during World War II, The Maximoffs accepted the strange gifts from the High Evolutionary and were told their names were Wanda and Pietro, the names their natural mother had given them at birth. The Maximoffs cared for the children as if they were their own. (Years later. Django would believe that Wanda and Pietro were his natural children, Ana and Maleo.) As adolescents, Wanda and Pietro discovered that they had peculiar talents. With a particular gesture while she was in a certain frame of mind. Wanda found that she could cause unusual phenomena to occur. When Django began to steal food to feed his starving family, enraged villagers attacked the gypsy camp Using his phenomenal speed. Pietro fled from the camp with his sister The traumatic circumstances of the separation from their family were so severe that not until well into adulthood could they remember anything but the barest details of their childhood The next few years. Wanda and Pietro wandered central Europe, living off the land. One day, Wanda accidentally caused a house to burst into flames with her uncontrollable hex powers. Despite Pietro's attempt to defend her from enraged townspeople, they were soon overpowered and about to become victims of mob violence when Magneto came to their rescue. Unaware that he was their natural father, Magneto pressed them into service in his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, costumed them, and named them Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver For months they served Magneto out of a sense of obligation and fear of his reprisal. When the extraterrestrial Stranger transported Magneto from Earth, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver left the Brotherhood and petitioned for membership in the Avengers. They were inducted along with Hawkeye to take the place of the charter members. who wished a leave of absence. At one point during her career as an Avenger, the Scarlet Witch underwent training in sorcery under the tutelage of a true witch named Agatha Harkness. The mental discipline of sorcery aided the Scarlet Witch’s powers of concentration, enabling her to exercise much greater control over her mutant hexes than ever before. While an active member of the Avengers. the Scarlet Witch met and married the synthetic man called the Vision, For a few years after their marriage, the two lived in Avengers Mansion, saving their Avengers' salaries. Eventually, the couple bought a house in Leonia, New Jersey, and retired from active membership. They returned to active duty when the Baxter Building was threatened by Annihilus's nullfield. The Vision assumed chairmanship when most of the Avengers disappeared while fighting the first Secret War After a several-week stint, the Vision stepped down as leader and the couple returned to Leonia. By warping probabilities, Wanda managed to be impregnated by the artificial Vision, They have since had twin sons named Thomas and William.
These were later revealed to be constructs created by Mephisto and as a result of this, and if the fact that the Vision was damaged and lost it's emotions, the Scarlet Witch went temporarily insane. She joined Magneto in an attack on the Avengers.
Still later she was cured, believed killed in the Onslaugth affair and returned only to be used in a plot by Morgan le Fay to take over the world.

In Brief: Toward the end of the twentieth century in one alternate future, worldwide chemical and biological warfare broke out, resulting in the sterilization of 95% of the Earth's female population. The fertile 5% seized political power and began a systematized program of oppression against men, who were seen as having nearly exterminated the species. By the early 23rd century, natural childbirth was totally supplanted by laboratory birthing. and men were bred only as servants, entertainers, and breeding stock. The major concerns of the United Sisterhood Republic. one of the leading nations of the new world, were exterminating the renegade bands of roving free men and preventing incursions from foreign nations and powers. Thundra was born in the Central Birthing Center of Greater Milage (MilwaukeeChicago), a government- run laboratory where fetuses are brought to term in artificial wombs. Genetically engineered for strength and endurance, Thundra was sent to military school when she was eight years old. By the age of eighteen, she had distinguished herself as the finest warrior in the Midwestern Republic and became an officer in the militia. She led assaults against roving bands of renegades and the armies of the Central American Empire. In the middle of Thundra's military career, the USA faced an invasion from an unexpected quarter Men from a contemporary alternate Earth where generations previously, renegade men had managed to overthrow their female oppressors, had been given the technology for interdimensional travel, and decided to journey to Thundra's Earth to liberate the men of that world. In an attempt to strike back at the men of Machus, as the leading nation of this alternate Earth was called, Thundra stole their dimensional apparatus, planning to launch a counter-attack on their world. The machine malfunctioned, however, and displaced her through time as well as space. She arrived in the twentieth century. and after acclimating herself. decided to humble the strongest man on Earth, thereby, she believed. preventing the world of Machus from ever coming about. Upon her arrival, she was befriended by the criminal Wizard of the Frightful Four, whose instruments detected Thundra’s time displacement. The Wizard was looking for a replacement for Medusa. and saw Thundra as an ideal choice. Thundra pretended to go along with the Wizard's plans in order to exploit his resources. She determined that the Thing at the Fantastic Four would be the ideal object lesson to vanquish in battle. Alongside the Frightful Four, she engaged the Thing in a battle, besting him fairly on at least one occasion. Recognizing that her actions in the past would have little bearing on the future, she betrayed the Frightful Four to became an ally of the Fantastic Four. Mahkizmo, the greatest warrior of Machus, eventually trailed Thundra to the twentieth century and took her back to her own time to stand trial for her theft of the interdimensional travel equipment. The Fantastic Four followed Thundra (using their own means of travel) and helped Thundra battle against the dimensional invaders of Machus. Before leaving the future for their own time, the Fantastic Four destroyed the mind- domination equipment of the Machians and hoped that the two worlds would settle their differences amicably. Thundra returned to the twentieth century with them, believing that her world would be changed unfavorably by the presence of the extradimensional men. Months later, however, Thundra was contacted by the Nth Command, subsidiary of the Roxxon Oil Company devoted to extradimensional research. They fold her that a divergent future world existed which was never invaded by Machus. She agreed to carry out a mission for them in exchange for being restored to her world. The mission was leading a band of female Roxxon operatives called the Grapplers into the government energy facility Project: Pegasus in order to sabotage it. She was apprehended in the process but was released so the authorities could track down the party that sent her. She briefly became an ally of Hyperion of the Squadron Sinister, another Roxxon operative. When she learned of the Nth Command's sinister motives, she stole one of the Nth Projectors, dimensional aperture synthesizers. Creating a portal to her own time, she went through it after bidding a fond fare- well to the Thing, the twentieth- century male she had most learned to admire. Hyperion attempted to follow her, but the portal closed while he was halfway through, stranding him in limbo. Thundra arrived in her home reality safely.
Thundra eventually met Arkon and fell in love. Their worlds were merged but when Arkon’s grand vizier poisoned Thundra and sent her to Earth Arkon followed her and they clashed with Quicksilver and the Knights of Wundagore. It was revealed that Thundra wasn’t responsible for her behavior and they returned to fight the Vizier.

In Brief: Arkon was born of noble lineage on the humanoid-inhabited extradimensional world Polemachus. The people of Polemachus developed a culture that glorifies warfare, and Arkon succeeded in becoming the greatest warrior of his people Appointed imperion of the largest country on Polemachus, Arkon mounted military campaigns against neighboring countries in an effort to conquer the world. His dreams were forgotten when Polemachus was faced with a world-wide catastrophe: the light- and heat-providing planetary rings were disintegrating. Arkon's scientists determined that atomic explosions occurring on Earth somehow were extradimensionally translated to rekindle the energy rings for about a year. Although Polemachus had not developed nuclear weaponry, the scienfists predicted that if they were to atomically annihilate the Earth. their world's energy-rings would be restored to power Toward this goal, Arkon manipulated the Scarlet Witch into reciting a magical spell found in a Polemachian book to enable him to transport himself to Earth, Attracted to the Witch. Arkon kidnapped her as well as a group of atomic scientists. The scientists were forced to yield intermission on nuclear weaponry, which Arkon's scientists used to construct an atomic device. Before Arkon could detonate it an Earth, however, Iron Man managed to build a machine that, when empowered by Thor's hammer, rekindled Pole- machus's energy-rings. Arkon then ceased hostilities with Earth. The Avengers had cause to revisit Arkon's world when their comrade, the Black Knight, was taken captive by Arkon while searching for the Well at the Center of Time. Arkon ceased hostilities with the Earth-men when he learned that he was being duped by the Asgardian Enchantress. Although his world now possessed the capacity for atomic power, Arkon was dissatisfied with the length of time it took to build a nuclear arsenal. Thus he devised a plan to pit three extradimensional worlds, one of which was Earth, against one another, in hopes that energy from the resultant nuclear conflagration could be absorbed by his world. His elaborate machinations failed, due to the efforts of the Fantastic Four Arkon was forced to return to Earth yet again when the machine that Iron Man had once built failed due to Arkon's tinkering with it. Although Arkon's scientists man- aged to fix if, the machine needed to be re-energized before it could restore Polemachus's energy-rings. Arkon traveled to Earth to recruit Thor. but when he was unable to locate the thunder god, he settled for Storm of the X-Men. who also had the ability to summon lightning. Apparently unaware of Arkon's two attempts to destroy Earth, Storm agreed to help, and with the assistance of her teammate Cyclops, rekindled Polemachus's rings Arkon returned the X-Men to Earth shortly thereafter. Still later, the Fantastic Four helped Arkon drive off an extradimensional invasion of Polemachus by the alien Badoon.
He met Thundra and eventually they married. His latest exploit took him to Earth in pursuit of his poisoned wife, he battled Quicksilver and the Knights of Wundagore but eventually heard of his Vizier's plans to merge his world with the Earth. Together with Thundra, Quicksilver and the Knights, he defeated his Vizier.

In Brief: Maximus was born the second son of two of Attilan's top geneticists. Agon. the head of the ruling Council of Geneticists. and Rynbda, director of the Prenatal Care Center Subjected to the DNA-altering Terrigen Mist when he was an infant, Maximus peculiarly showed no outward sign of any mutagenic change. As he matured. he hid his developing psionic powers from the community but was less successful at disguising his antisocial tendencies. When he was about sixteen, his elder brother, Black Bolt, was released from the protective chamber in which he had been confined since birth so that he could learn to control his potentially destructive mutagenic abilities. Black Bolt witnessed Maximus making a treacherous pact with an emissary Of the Kree. In an attempt to stop the fleeing emissary, Black Bolt used his for- bidden power of the quasi-sonic scream and blasted the alien ship out of the sky When the ship crashed to the ground. it landed on the parliament building, killing several key members of the Genetics Council. including the boys parents The reverberations also affected Maximus. addling his sanity and suppressing his nascent mental powers. When Black Bolt assumed the throne shortly thereafter. Maximus vowed to usurp his rule. Maximus staged his first successful coup a few years later by creating energy beings that drove the Royal Family out of the city in search of Medusa. Black Bolt's cousin and betrothed In the several- year interval before they located her in America. Maximus ruled Attilan in Black Bolts stead. Feeling secure in his position. Maximus bade his servant. the Seeker to locate the Royal Family and bring them back to Attilan immediately upon arriving, however, Black Bolt seized the crown back. Maximus activated the AtmoGun device to erect a dark force sphere around Attilan, imprisoning the entire race inside Black Bolt liberated his people by using his quasisonic voice to destroy the barrier. At the price of devastating Attilan’s ancient architecture. Maximum's first coup lasted several years. Maximus succeeded in his second coup some months later. Drugging the Royal Family with a will-deadening hypno-potion Maximus wrested the crown from Black Bolt and had the Royal Family imprisoned. Before he could activate his Hypno-Gun, which he believed would make all mankind surrender his will. however the Royal family escaped and subdued him. His second coup lasted brief days. After some time in exile, Maximus was invited back to Attilan. Detecting that Maximus's psionic powers were beginning to return, Black Bolt had Maximus placed in a suspended animation cap sde. inside which he could not use his powers Black Bolt's cousin Gorgon. however objected to Black Bolt’s inhumane treatment of Maximus and freed him. Maximus found himself using his mental powers to subjugate the minds of the inhuman populace and to give his brother Black Bolt amnesia Maximus then restored the dark force barrier around Attilan and began negotiations with the alien Kres to sell certain Inhumans to the Kree to be used as soldiers. Eventually Black Bolt's memory returned, and with the Avengers, he returned to Attilan and once again destroyed the barrier Maximus's third takeover of Attilan lasted several weeks. Maximus staged his fourth successful coup when he kidnapped two members of the Royal Family and forced Black Bolt to give him the crown in order to spare their lives. Black Bolt did so and allowed himself to be placed in captivity. Maximus had negotiated a deal in which the Kree would take all of the Inhumans with extraordinary abilities. leaving him the other half of the population to rule. Triton and Karnak managed to rescue most of Maximus's captives and outwit the Kree agent Shatterstar. Unaware of the victory. Black Bolt let loose with his quasi- sonic scream in agony, once again leveling the city Maximus then allied himself with the Enclave. a band of human scientists who wanted to conquer Attilan, They man- aged to capture Medusa. When the Enclave threatened to execute her. how- ever, Maximus admitted his passion for her and turned on them. A weapon Maximus was manning overloaded. leaving him in a death-like coma Black Bolt had his brother's body placed in a special crypt. and when Attilan was transported from the Earth to the moon, Maximus accompanied it On the moon, Maximus's mind made contact with an alien power crystal located there. and it ma- wakened his dormant mental powers. When Black Bolt next came to pay his respects to his brother. Maximus was able to use his power to affect a transfer of consciousness between them. For several months, Maximus ruled Attilan in Black Bolt's body as Black Bolt lay imprisoned in a tube With the aid of the Avengers, Maximus's switch with Black Bolt was discovered Maximus was forced to return to his right body and was once again placed in solitary confinement. Maximus is currently plotting his next takeover of Attilan.
Recently, in a plot to discredit Quicksilver, Exodus ordered Cortez to increase Maximus’s powers so that he could control Quicksilver, even from his confinement cell. Eventually the plot was thwarted.
