Notes on Magic: Since quite a few of the characters mentioned below are magic users a few
clarifications on their spell-abilities is required.
The spells listed in their power desciption are spells that are available to them at any time. Other spells they can cast must be studied from tomes and books before they may cast
them on the listed power-level, or they can cast them directly from the books or tomes (1 round). If the tome or book contains totally new spells (GM's discretion) the spell must
be studied a lot longer and it costs the character 2500 karma (minus 150 karma for each
additional month spend for study with a minimum of 1000 karma).

Story:
Illyana Rasputin is the younger sister of Piotr (Peter) Rasputin, who left
their home at the Ust-Ordynski collective farm in Siberia when Illyana
was quite young and became Colossus, one of the X-Men. When she
was seven years old, Illyana was abducted from the Soviet Union in a
ploy to force the X-Men to go to the eccentric assassin Arcade's rescue.
The main team of X-Men battled a Doctor Doom robot and obtained
Arcade's release, while a team of reserve members of the X-Men freed
Illyana and her fellow captives. Unwilling to risk returning to the
Soviet Union to take Illyana back to her parents, Peter Rasputin decided
to keep Illyana with him at the X-Men's Westchester headquarters.
Some months later, the sorcerer Belasco brought Illyana and the X-Men to his extradimensional realm,
which he called Limbo. There Illyana met Kitty Pryde, with Storm the only
survivor of a group of X-Men from a divergent Earth who had come to
Belasco's Limbo earlier. Kitty had grown to adulthood there and become
known as Cat, especially for the inhuman catlike physical characteristics
Belasco had given her. As Earth's X-Men escaped from Limbo, Belasco
seized Illyana's arm. The Kitty Pryde of our Earth seized Illyana's other arm,
but Belasco ripped the young girl from Pryde's grasp.
Holding Illyana captive in Limbo, Belasco turned a portion of her soul
demonic in nature. This part of her soul, which humans call "evil:' Illyana
calls her "darksoul." Belasco also conjured a "bloodstone" from Illyana's
soul and placed it within the socalled Beatrice Medallion. If and when Belasco conjures five bloodstones for the
medallion, Illyana, who would then be the demonic Darkchilde, would serve
as the means by which Belasco's masters, the Elder Gods, would invade
and conquer Earth and its entire universe.
Belasco also gave Illyana's darksoul considerable sorcerous
power. Storm, herself a sorceress, took Illyana under her wing and
taught her enough magic to combat Belasco's evil influence. However,
Cat feared that the more Illyana learned of magic, the easier it would
be for Belasco to corrupt her. So Cat took Illyana from Storm and taught
her how to fight. When Illyana was physically nine years old, Belasco
made her his apprentice in sorcery.
The demonic side of Illyana's soul reveled in serving Belasco, and his
influence over her grew stronger, although her true, good personality
remained in control. Years after becoming his apprentice, Illyana discovered her own mutant power to
create energy discs by which she could teleport herself through space
and time.
Finally, in an attempt to save Illyana, Storm fought Belasco, but
the sorcerer had Cat wound Storm. Horrified, Illyana tried to keep Cat
away from Storm, and Belasco, displeased, ordered Cat to attack
Illyana. Illyana found herself forced to kill Cat to save herself.
Finally, Illyana, who had mastered the magic in Belasco's books, did battle with Belasco himself, using her
newly formed Soulsword, the ultimate expression of her mystical
power. As the two battled, Illyana grew mentally and physically more
demonic while Belasco reverted to human form, losing much of his
power. Illyana nearly killed Belasco with the Soulsword but decided not to
give in to her demonic side, and she let him live. She drove Belasco from
Limbo and regained her human form.
At long last Illyana returned to Earth, arriving at a point only seconds after the X-Men's escape from
Limbo. Belasco's principal demon servant, S'ym, followed Illyana to
Earth, but the girl defeated him in battle and demanded that he
renounce Belasco. S'ym did so, and from that time forward Illyana was
undisputed master of Belasco's Limbo. However, Illyana prefered to live
on Earth where she had become a member of the New Mutants. Illyana
had taken the code name Magik and was the best friend of X-Man Kitty
Pryde.
During Inferno, Magik's mystical mas-
tery of Limbo was challenged by S'ym, who had been infected by
Magus's transmode virus. In addition, a number of mystical barriers
had broken down, and creatures of magic were invading the physical
plane. All this coincided with the final determination of Illyana's fate for
good or evil and Illyane finally succumbed to her Darkchilde side. The New Mutants
fought her and in an ultimate attempt by her light side to stop all this from happening she
cast a powerful spell to prevent her from ever becomming Magik and
the once again young Illyana was found in the Darkchilde's armor.
(Since everyone can still remeber her as Magik, Cannonball sugested
that Illyana in fact didn't alter time, so the child may just have been
an alternate dimension's Illyana and the real Magik / Darkchilde may be
still around somewhere in Limbo.)
The child was returned to her parents and was later infected by Stryfe's
Legacy Virus. She was it's first victim.

Talents: Mystic Background, Atlantean Technology, Swords
Story:
According to probably erroneous accounts, Belasco was a sorcerer in
13th century Italy who used his alchemical and black arts knowledge to contact the so-called Elder
Gods, extradimensional beings bent on invading and dominating Earth.
He struck a bargain with them: he would enable their passage into the
Earth dimension via a spell using mystical bloodstones, in exchange
for them granting him unbelievable powers and immortality. The Elder
Gods designated Belasco the father of a new race of demons, and made
him partially demonic, giving him horns and a tail among other features. This much of the accounts is
probably true.
Next it is asserted that Belasco kidnaped Beatrice, lover of the poet
Dante Alighieri, to be the mother of the new demon-race. They fled
aboard a ship (pursued by Dante) and landed in Pangea, formerly settled by Atlanteans before the cataclysm. By this time Beatrice was in
her ninth month of pregnancy. After a grueling chase to the center of an exhibit which the Atlanteans
had allegedly designed for their own amusement to resemble Hell, Beatrice died while giving birth. Dante
attacked Belasco, and during the fight, Belasco broke an overhead
pipe, releasing a freezing liquid onto himself. He entered a state of suspended animation. Theoretically he
remained in this state for several centuries. Volcanic activity in Pangea caused an electrical accident
which melted the frozen liquid and returned him to life.
These accounts are contradicted by the historical data on Dante and
Beatrice. It is also highly unlikely that the Atlanteans could have replicated
the Greek and Christian visions of Hell so closely. More likely, Belasco
used Pangean technology to construct the exhibit. Finally, Belasco's
account conceals the loss of his right arm.
Upon regaining the locket that would enable him to bring the Elder
Gods to Earth, Belasco controlled Shanna O'Hara with the intent to
make her the mother of the demonic race. The rite to bring the Elder Gods
into the Earth dimension was ruined by Ka-zar's rescue of Shanna. The
Elder Gods then sent Belasco to Limbo as retribution.
Time flows differently in Limbo. It is not known how long Belasco has
been there. He was absolute master of that realm until his apprentice,
Illyana Rasputin (Magik of the New Mutants) defeated him. Belasco
manipulated events in Limbo to facilitate his release, but was defeated
again by Ka-zar and Shanna. He has since captured Margali Szardos and claimed the
Soulsword and he is again absolute master in Limbo.

Storm became Belasco's apprentice in the hope of defeating him.
Due to her strong will she managed to resist total corruption be she
didn't succeed in killing Belasco. She escaped and created a safe place
shielded from Belasco and his demons.
When time repeated itself she helped the X-Men fight Belasco and
escape Limbo, but when Illyana was taken by Belasco to be corrupted
she took her from his citadel and trained her in the Mystical arts, hoping
that Illyana would be strong enough to resist Belasco.
Illyana was taken from her by Cat, who believed more in physical
resistance. In a final battle with Belasco Storm was struck down
by a Mind-Controlled Cat and then killed by Illyana under order from
Belasco. But while Belasco planned to trap Storm's soul, Illyana managed
to help Storm's soul go free thereby denying Belasco his revenge.

Story:
S'ym's background prior to Illyana Rasputin's entry into Limbo is not
known. At this time he was Belasco's major servant within the realm of
Limbo. Belasco often allowed S'ym to do his "dirty work." S'ym was not
particularly fond of taking orders, but played along, seeing a possibility for
ultimate power.
When Belasco was defeated by IIlyana, S'ym remained with him, and
later traveled to Earth to bring Magik (as Illyana was now called) back to
her master. He was defeated by the New Mutants and swore loyalty to
Magik.
S'ym obeyed his new mistress' commands, but always awaited a
chance to overthrow her. The opportunity came when the being known
as Magus pursued the New Mutants through Limbo. S'ym was infected
with Magus' techno-organic virus, and Magus had no time to drain his
energies before leaving Limbo in pursuit of his son. With his powers
vastly augmented, S'ym infected Limbo and all of its creatures with the
techno-virus. S'ym was now the creature with the strongest willpower
in that realm, and with Magik unable to reenter it for any length of time for
fear of being infected, he soon ruled supreme.
This was not enough for S'ym, however, and he planned to gain control of Magik, sending his minions into
the Marvel-Earth dimension to rule supreme over all. This brought him
into conflict with N'astirh, another demon who sought to use children of
power to form a gateway so that his forces could rule. S'ym and N'astirh
fought on several occasions until N'astirh allowed himself to be infected with the techno-virus. This
strategy gave N'astirh access to technology created by the mutant Taki
which he had previously been unable to use because of his demonic nature. Taki used his control over machinery to defeat N'astirh.
S'ym was left alone to complete his conquest, but his former mistress
Magik sacrificed all of her power to reconfigure Limbo as if she had
never been there. This action removed S'ym and all of his followers
from Earth.
After the defeat of N'Astirh and the disappearance of Magik S'ym
did claim Limbo as his own, though without the Soulsword
S'yms mastery wasn't absolute. Machinations by Dr. Doom removed him
from this position, only to be replaced by Darkoth. He was left
trying to reclaim his throne. Now with Belasco's return S'ym is
probably back being Belasco's premier servant.

Story:
N'astirh was one of a number of major demons in Limbo. Like the other major demonsorcerers, N'astirh coveted control
of Limbo, and desired to become master of Earth as well. He waited and he watched.
After Illyana became ruler of Limbo, things became tumultuous.
Magik did not rule Limbo with the iron fist that demons were used to
seeing in their personal rulers; while she was personally intimidating, the
Darkchilde spent too much time on Earth to maintain firm control of the
dimension.
N'astirh began to gather his demonic agents and scheme grander
schemes than a demon should scheme. Finally, his machinations
came to a head. N'astirh attempted to kidnap 13 babies and sacrifice
them in a ritual known as Inferno,
which would have given him control over Limbo and Earth. He made alliances (and broke or twisted them)
with Taki of the X-Terminators, S'ym, and Magik; and also dealt with Magneto and Madelyn Pryor, the Goblyn
Queen. First, he tried to open a gateway between Earth and Limbo
through which his demon horde could travel, using the 13 children's
souls as energy for the pentagramshaped nexus, and manipulating
Magik into closing it. He forced Taki to build a computer that would run
magic spells as programs, giving him nearly limitess magical power.
He manipulated S'ym into infecting him with the Technarch transmode
virus, which gave him tremendous power.
The gateway was destroyed when Magik rejected her dark heritage and
reverted to her innocent six-year old self, which she had been before her
initial entry into Limbo. The magic computer was destroyed by the X-Terminators. Eventually, he made an
alliance with the Goblyn Queen, becoming her servant (if secretly desiring her power) in a last effort to bring
Inferno to life. N'astirh was finally defeated by X-Factor and the X-Men in
a fierce battle and seemingly destroyed. Since death is rarely permanent for demons, it remains to be
seen whether N'astirh will rise again.

Story:
Margali Szardos is a powerful sorceress of the Winding Way whose origins have yet to be
completely revealed. Margali had a
son, Stefan, and she also took in the
orphaned Kurt Wagner (who would
one day become Nightcrawler of the
X-Men). Margali trained her daughter, Jimaine Szardos/Amanda Sefton, in the mystical crafts.
Margali raised the children in a
small Bavarian circus, where she
pretended to be a simple fortune teller. While Kurt worked on becoming a
circus performer, Margali trained Jimaine in magic. The brooding Stefan eventually left the circus to make
his own way in life.
The small circus was taken over
by a rich Texas millionaire, who ordered Kurt to be placed in the freak
side show. The anguished Kurt quit
the circus and headed towards Winzeldorf, West Germany, where Stefan lived. Kurt discovered that
Stefan had gone mad and killed two
children.
Two days after leaving the circus,
Kurt tracked Stefan down and tried
to capture him. During the fight, Kurt
accidentally broke Stefan's back,
killing him. Civilians discovered Kurt
with Stefan's body, and because of
Kurt's demonic appearance, they assumed that he had killed the two
children. Kurt was saved from the
mob by the psionic powers of Professor X, who asked Kurt to join his new
team of X-Men. Kurt agreed and
went to America with Professor X.
Margali blamed Kurt for Stefan's
death. Jimaine, who had long ago
fallen in love with Kurt, followed him
to America and watched him. She
became the airline stewardess
Amanda Sefton, and arranged to accidentally meet Kurt. She mystically
disguised herself so he would not
recognize her, and they were soon
dating each other regularly.
Margali eventually took her revenge on Kurt by exiling his mind
and soul to a pocket dimension she
had created. She did this during a
birthday party held by the X-Men for
Kurt. Margali magically placed a
special gift among Kurt's other
presents. When Kurt touched the
present, a crystal likeness of himself, his mind and soul were taken
out of his body.
The prison dimension resembled
hell as depicted in Dante's Inferno.
Amanda, pretending to be Margali,
kidnapped Kurt's fellow X-Men and
Doctor Strange. Amanda then sent
them to the same dimension that
Margali had sent Kurt, hoping that
they would be able to help Kurt. Kurt
finally confronted Margali in this
pocket universe and convinced her
of his innocence. Amanda then revealed her true identity to Kurt.
Later, Amanda Sefton heard a rumor that Dr. Strange needed a new
apprentice, because Clea had left
him. She went to Strange and asked
to become his new apprentice (secretly compelled by Margali), as did
every crackpot in the world who
heard about the rumor. Strange arranged for all the petitioners to meet
at one spot, where he told them that
he currently had no wish to take on
an apprentice.
Margali Szardos appeared and attacked Strange. Margali was angered that Strange had refused to
take on her daughter as an apprentice. Strange cast a spell to force
himself and Margali into the astral
plane. Margali warped the spell so
that all the would-be apprentices
were also forced into the astral plane
with them.
Strange and Margali battled with
all their mystic forces. Strange soon
realized that Margali's powers came
from her wand. Strange tricked
Margali and took the wand from her.
Margali immediately regained her
true mortal form, that of an old woman. She explained to Strange that
the wand was an evil entity that took
over its owner's mind. Margali revealed that the wand had hoped to
gain control over Strange. Upon returning everyone back to the physical plane, Strange destroyed the
wand.
It was later revealed that this story about the wand was not true (although
the real reasons for Margali's lie is not clear). Next she tricked her
daugther to give her the Soulsword for safe-keeping. In truth she wanted
to advance the Winding Way even faster and she killed nearly all ahead of her.
Then she learned of a Demonic power source beneath London, but due
to actions of Excalibur she failed to claim the power for herself.
In a moment of weakness on her path Belasco seized the opportunity to
capture her and claim the Soulsword. Margali is currently a captive in Limbo.
