Bio for Cmdr. Rudolf Fischer

Intro
Commander Rudolf Fischer is my primary character for the Holoworld Fleet. Of all the chars I've created over time, he is the most like myself. He is also the easiest for me to write and when I feel like doing a special project, he is usually the main char. (Okay, so I have only done one special project so far, but he was the main char there. Go read, if you want. I'm told that it's a real good story :-) )

Appearance
Fischer doesn't care too much about his looks. He keeps his hair short, not so much because it looks better, but because it's easier to handle in the morning. Sometimes he forgets to shave himself, giving him a bit of a raw look. About the only piece of clothing he takes very good care of is his uniform. When he's off duty, he prefers to wear easy clothes, often a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

Background
Rudolf Fischer was born and raised on Earth, in Germany. Being the youngest child, he had to endure his brother's teasing (of course not without the proper reactions) and his sister's helping hand (which was well meant, but superfluous at times to say the least). His parents weren't working in Starfleet, although his father had once been enlisted for about a year (he resigned when he met his future wife). His parents insisted their children were taught about their cultural background, and Rudolf had to learn the German language in his childhood. Although he didn't like this at the time, he'd be grateful later.

After standard education at primary and secondary school, he went to the University of Berlin to study astrochemistry. Five years later, he graduated with honours. Wanting to pursue a career between the stars, he said his homeland farewell and travelled to San Francisco, where he enrolled in Starfleet Academy. Following up on his university degree, he focused on the scientific courses. At the suggestion of one of his teachers, he minored in command skills.

At the age of 27, he graduated from the Academy and was assigned to the USS Oriskany as chief science officer. Following a survey mission in an area of space relatively close to the Cocoon, he was promoted to Lieutenant JG and acting second officer. On their way back to Federation space, the ship was attacked by a small fighter, resulting in the death of both the CO and the FO. Taking over command, Fischer managed to fight off the attackers (who were later identified as three escaped Vulcans), and find safety within the Cocoon wall. In recognition of his actions, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. In the weeks that followed, he helped in coordinating the repairs on the Oriskany at the Gaia Shipyards. During that time, he developed a liking for this vast unexplored area of space, and requested reassignment. After a psychological evaluation at SB Omega, his request was granted in the form of a transfer to Deep Space 101 as first officer, under the condition that he would go through CGT before actively taking on that position.

On stardate 13.0419, Captain Alyza ended the CGT before the simulated mission had been brought to an end. Although Fischer still had a lot to learn, she had seen enough to graduate him from his training. Upon his succesful completion of the CGT, Captain Alyza promoted him to the rank of full Lieutenant.

During his first away mission (with the USS Hikaru, led by Captain Alyza), Lt. Fischer's body was posessed by an individual known as the Instrument. After failing to succeed in his plans, the Instrument returned control of his body to Fischer. Ensign Carl Poynton (CMO DS101) was later able to successfully remove the Instrument's consciousness from Fischer's mind and return it to his own body. Prior to these events, Fischer apparently turned delirious at the news that the Hikaru might have been destroyed (he was on another ship at that moment) and even tried to commit suicide. It is assumed this was a result of his mind being posessed by the Instrument.

On stardate 14.0131, less than ten months after his promotion to Lieutenant, Captain Alyza promoted him to Lieutenant-Commander, acknowledging his command skills and service as first officer. Six weeks later, on SD. 14.0310, he was given temporary command of the USS Curie. Together with LtCmdr. Daniel Stuart, in temporary command of the USS Nightingale, Fischer led the investigation into the crash of the USS Tasmania. They brought the mission to a successful end, getting a lot of command experience along the way. Both men returned to their position of first officer a few days later.

Having had a temporary command, Rudolf wanted to become CO permanently. At the end of 2414, the Fleet CO offered him command of the new USS Yeager. Rudolf accepted of course, but there was a complication. He had fallen in love with the station's CSciO, Lt. Hunter Etori, and he had to leave her behind to enter a new chapter in the book of his life.

Personal Profile
Hobbies: Playing cards, playing the piano (he's generally much better at the first than at the second)
Likes: His job, his cat
Dislikes: Too much formality towards him from those under his command
Believes: History (he believes that a lot, if not all, questions can be answered by looking at the past; this doesn't mean he's conservative, though)
Ambition: To have a good time doing a job he likes
Motto: Carpe diem
Quirks: Always looks for something to hold in his hands (like padds, coffee cups, anything within reach), sometimes much to the irritation of the owner of the object

Rudolf tries to enjoy life to the fullest. When on duty, that means doing his job; when off duty, that means spending time with his friends. He is easily liked by most people, and he likes most people easily. He is always in for a joke, and doesn't shy away from making jokes himself either. He does his work in a serious manner, but will also try to make it fun. He can come up with weird ideas, some of which have a good point behind them, some of which are barely worth considering. He can be very impulsive at times, though he has become better at thinking his actions through in advance. On some occasions, his impulsiveness leads to conflicts, but he always takes whatever blame he deserves.

He has long felt uncomfortable around Vulcans, even to the point of disliking and distrusting them. These feelings originated from something that happened in his childhood, but it has been agreed that the details will not be discussed in this file. Since his assignment to DS101, under a Vulcan/Bajoran captain, he has mostly overcome his feelings. He doesn't like Vulcans yet, and probably never will, but he has developed a respect for their nature. In particular, he sees Captain Alyza as a valued fellow officer, worthy of his trust. The same goes for any other Vulcan officers he has come to know.

Although Rudolf is proud to be a Starfleet officer and respects the chain of command, he doesn't care too much for formality. On duty, he will often address people of lower rank by their first name, while he addresses his superiors in the more formal, traditional way. Off duty, he likes to treat everyone as equal, that is, regardless of their rank. Of course, if someone doesn't appreciate this informality, he won't push it.

Psychological Evaluation
TO: Whom it may concern
FM: LtCmdr. Danita Kelly, CNS, SB Omega
RE: Lt<jg> Rudolf Fischer
SD: 13.0316

"Lieutenant JG Rudolf Fischer is in good psychological condition and fit for active duty. If he suffered any mental damage during the attack on the Oriskany, it is gone now. The fact that the attackers were Vulcans has strengthened his feelings towards Vulcans a little bit, but I do not believe this will cause any problems in his new assignment under a Vulcan CO."
