Physics, Astronomy

• CGord is a table of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients [for SO(3)], see Phys Rev D 66 (2002) 010001 , Wikipedia and P. Stevenson's calculator . 6jSymb is a table of 6j symbols in the standard A.R. Edmonds notation, also used by Rasch et al, SIAM J Sci Comp 25 (2003) 1416 . Only values for which the triangle condition yields a nonzero value are shown. (Some of the remaining 6j symbols may vanish nevertheless: W.A. Beyer et al, Acta Applicandae Math. 7 (1986) 257 .) The order assumes that the 144 Regge symmetries have been used to move the larger coefficients into the top row and to the left columns.
• cidd2.c is a C program that implements the fit to humid air dispersion as described in Appl Opt 35 (9) (1996) 1566
• Ascii2Fits.cpp contains a C++ program to create FITS files from ASCII inputs files with a syntax that is extended from to the template parser of cfitsio : creation of the FITS file and initialization of the table values are combined. If called as Fits2Ascii, it converts a FITS file into an ASCII listing; command line options allow to mimic dfits and dtfits behavior.
• KarhLoeMain.C , KarhLoe.C , KarhLoe.h , Zernike.C , Zernike.h , TScreen.C and TScreen.h are a C++ program to generate the statistically independent radial basis function for a circular pupil for Kolmogorov turbulence, and optionally to produce phase screens for variable ratio D/r0 (telescope diameter over Fried parameter) by superposition with expansion coefficients of Gaussian distribution. A programer's guide is in KarhLoe.pdf and the related preprint in arXiv:0705.1700 .
• HFatom.tar.gz contains a C++ program to calculate the Roothaan-Hartree-Fock ground state of closed-shell single atoms using the generalized Spherical Gaussian Type Orbitals as basis functions proposed in the LANL preprint physics/9907051 .
• Ylm.cpp Ylm.h pSTO.cpp pSTO.h linSTO.cpp linSTO.h are a C++ implementation of Spherical Harmonics, primitive Slater Type Orbitals, and linear combinations of STO's.
• FCint.C is a C++-function that implements a recursive calculation of the overlap integral between multi-dimensional Harmonic Oscillator eigenfunctions as described in J Chem Phys A 102, 7157 (1998). It uses the STL to store and recover all points of known integrals met while building the recursion tree.
• cat2Sql.cxx is a C++ program which converts a catalog in ASCII (input) format into either a CREATE TABLE and list of INSERT commands of SQL or a binary FITS table on output, slicing the columns of the input file according to the specifications of a configuration file. The API is in cat2Sql.pdf .
• wdsToSql.pl is a perl -script which reads the 130-bytes-per-line version of the WDS database or the orbital catalog and generates a SQL command sequence that can be read into MySQL or other servers for easier selection of entries.
• novas.h is a C/C++ header that defines an interface to the NOVAS F3.0f Fortran library . See also novas.pdf .
• AtmLens.tgz contains a C++ implementation of the atmospheric refraction path integrals described in Baltic Astron. 14 (2005) 277 . The documentation is in a PDF file AtmLens.pdf .
• Geod.java is a Java implementation of solving the inverse problem of geodesy at constant altitude above the ellipsoid with a finite element method. After downloading the Jar file Geod.jar the program can be run for example with java -jar Geod.jar -s 1000 -e 0.08227185417541244347812117 -R 6378206.4 8.973611111 -79.573333333333 21.435000000 -158.02583333 with the specified sampling number, eccentricity etc as documented in the source code.
• prStarCat.C , prStarCatMain.C , Charm2StarCat.C , Simbad2StarCat.C , Wds2StarCat.C , prWds.C , prconst.h and units.h are a set of C++ classes and a main program which build an build astrometric star catalog with parsers for ASCII files of the WDS , the CHARM catalog or Simbad .
• org_nevec_prima_simulator_SLALIB.c and the associated header file org_nevec_prima_simulator_SLALIB.h are a JNI to the SLALIB .
• aips++_fc6.pdf is a report on an attempt to compile/install CASA and the auxiliary ccmtools on a Linux/Fedora platform, FC6 with gcc 4.1.1.
• mioFieldAng is a bash script to compute the field rotation angle and projected baseline angle in the VLTI interferometric laboratory from the information found in FITS headers.
• MioFitsPost.jar contains a Java program to correct some aspects of the MIDI FITS files. A documentation is in the main() function of class MioFitsPost in the API.
• hitran2refr.tgz contains a C++ program to compute the real part of the refractive index of humid air in the infrared from databases of electromagnetic transitions, with an API in hitran2refr.pdf . A typical output is plotted in posterVtoN.ps for refractive indices from the V to the Q band at 744 hPa, relative humidities from 10 to 30 percent, and a magnified view in posterHtoN.ps for the same parameters from H to Q.
• hitranSort.c contains a C program which sorts a file with a line list in the HITRAN format into the order of increasing wave number.
• MatisseBS.cpp is a C++ program to compute phases of the s- and p-polarizations of reflections and transmissions of single layer coatings on substrates. It needs asin.cpp, , units.h and prconst.h .

• prWaterWeb.html is a Java applet to calculate air refractivities for various formulas of the literature. satur2D.ps is a plot that converts relative humidities from 5 to 75 percent to absolute humidities at standard environmental temperatures.
• prErrWeb.html is a Java applet to convert two star coordinates into some fundamental parameters of long-baseline interferometry (baselines, projected baselines, OPD motion). It translates errors in star locations and baseline geometry into errors of (differential) optical path differences. The API is summarized in prErrWeb.pdf .

Mathematics

Special Functions

• debye3.c and debye3.h contain two C-functions to calculate the Debye-function of order 3 to 7 as needed in the calculation of Planck's radiation function. Some of these are also in the GSL specfun , and in the MISCFUN package of TOMS 757 .
• gsl_poly_orth.h and gsl_poly_orth.c are an interface to evaluate Hermite, Laguerre and Chebyshev Polynomials of the First kind in extension of the GSL Polynomial library .
• PARI#482 is a proposal to implement Hermite and Cheychev Polynomials of The Second Kind in the PARI library.
• GaussCirc.C is a C++ program to compute weights (by Voroni tesselation) and 2D abscissa values for numerical integrations over scattered points in the interior of the unit circle. Examples look like GaussCircEx1.ps for the randomization option and like GaussCircEx2.ps if this option isn't used.
• cuberoots.c is a C program to compute the three complex-valued roots of the cubic polynomial with real coefficients a_i, a₀+a₁z+a₂z²+z³=0.
• asin.cpp is a C++ header that implements the arcsin of a complex value, which is missing in the gcc mathematical library.
• gauss.c is a C routine - which makes use of the NAG library - to compute the expansion coefficients of the Jacobi Polynomial P^(1,0)(1-2x), the typical pre-requisite for Gaussian type numerical integrations.
• Gauss0.h , Gauss1.h and Gauss2.h contain the abscissa and weights for the Gaussian integration of moments of order 0 to 2 for 10, 20, 30,..., 80 nodes, which extends Tables 25.4 and 25.8 in the Handbook of Mathematical Functions and the table in Math. Tab. Aids Comp 11 (1957) 1 .
• LagZero.c is a C program to compute the roots of Laguerre Polynomials or Hermite Polynomials and the associated weights for the Gauss-Laguerre or Gauss_Hermite integration over the interval from 0 to infinity. It implements the technique proposed by Shao et al in Math Comp 18 (1964) no 88, p 598.
• Zernike.txt contains a list of explicit write-ups of Zernike Polynomials R_n^m(x), and of Jacobi Polynomials G_n(2,2,x) to G_n(6,6,x) in Abramowitz/Stegun notation, orthogonal over [0,1] with weight function x. Then it contains the reverse expansions, that is powers xⁿ as sums of G_s(2,2,x), s=0 to n, and R_n^m(x) as sums of G_s(2,2,x), s=0 to n. There also are expansion of 2D Cartesian powers x^sy^t in Fourier series along the azimuth angle phi, where x=r*cos(phi) and y=r*sin(phi). Finally, there is a table of expansions of these powers in Zernike polynomials. See also J Wyant's web page.
• poly3D.cpp and poly3D.h are a basic C++ implementation of 3D Zernike polynomials, with an API in poly3D.pdf .
• kumm.f.gz is a Fortran function in gzipped format (148 kBytes) to compute the Incomplete Gamma Function F_m(z) for positive integer m and complex z by actually computing the equivalent Kummer Function (Confluent Hypergeomeric Function) ₁F₁(m+1/2,m+3/2,-z) by local power series expansions around points on a regular grid in the complex z-plane.
• digamma.c is a C function to compute the Psi (Digamma) function for real arguments with a Chebychev expansion in the interval [1,3].

Algorithms

• PowFit2D.cpp is a C++ program to fit polynomials in the power basis xⁱy^j of Cartesian coordinates x and y to a set of given values of a function f in the least squares sense. See PowFit2D.pdf .
• convol.c is a C program to smooth a set of one-dimensional (x,y) data pairs by convolution with Gaussian, Lorentzian, or Sinc functions (where Sinc functions correspond to boxcars in the Fourier domain).
• GenFLinRec.mp is a Maple program to calculate generating functions supposed the Taylor coefficients are given by linear recurrences with constant coefficients. A short overview is given in mathar20071126.pdf .

Combinatorics

• partit.C contains two implementations of C++ partition classes (partitions of an integer number n of indistinguishable elements into m non-empty subsets) with a iterator-like member function that generates all possible partitions.
• PARI#671 is a PARI implementation of generator of restricted or unrestricted partitions of n.
• numbpartr.gp is a PARI implementation of the number restricted partitions or partitions into distinct parts.
• choose.c is an ANSI C program to print the (n choose m)=n!/m!/(n-m)! combinations of choosing 'm' elements out of a set of 'n' different items. See also permute.c .
• stat2Bin.C is a C++ program which counts the number of values (listed in an input ASCII File) in bins of regular widths over an interval.

  • transforms3 contains a Maple source program for reading from/writing to b-files, computing Motzkin transforms of sequences, formatting floating point constants....
  • oeisDupl is an overview of OEIS pairs which are the same up to the first one or two initial terms; opportunities to discover duplicates in the data base.
  • A001055.txt is a list of factorizations of integers into distinct factors as counted in A001055 in the OEIS.
  • b007504+.txt is a list of the sum of the first n primes, complementary to A007504 , in the OEIS , for n a multiple of 100 thousand, n <=10 billion. Here, the list of not regular in the sense that the first column comes in steps of 100,000.
  • A045778.txt is a list of factorizations of integers into distinct factors as counted in A045778 in the OEIS.
  • A055547.c is a C program that creates all normal binary n by n matrices (n<=6 in reasonable time) as counted by entry A055547 in the OEIS.
  • A056841.C is a C++ program that generates the non-congruental trees (loop-free polyominos) on a square lattice as counted by entry A056841 in the OEIS . The gzipped ASCII output would look like A056841.gz . A056787.C is a C++ program that generates the non-congruental trees (loop-free polyominos) on a square lattice as counted by entry A056787 in the OEIS. The gzipped ASCII output would look like A056787.gz.
  • a072149.ps , a072150.ps , and a072151.ps illustrate which nodes of the graph shown in A072149 are equidistant to the three different types of root nodes.
  • A076876.txt.gz is a gzipped ASCII list of the table A076876 in the OEIS .
  • a124064.pdf is a printed version of the table A124064 in the OEIS .
  • a124570.pdf is a printed version of the table A124570 in the OEIS .
  • a161460.pdf is an explicit validation of sequence A161460 in the OEIS .
• stirling.gp is a PARI implementation of the Stirling numbers of the first and second kind, PARI#511 .
• EternCal.ps is a PostScript page of an eternal calendar, covering the years 1801-2100. It allows fast calculation of the day of the week for any given date in these three centuries.

interactive

• FI.html starts a Java applet with an integer number calculator in reverse Polish notation. It includes an implementation of rational numbers, Polynomials with rational coefficients, Bernoulli numbers, some entries in the OEIS , and the library of arXiv:0908.3030 . See the Jar file FI.jar and the API (FI.pdf .)
• AtlCons.html contains a JavaScript which submits a search for a floating point number to the OEIS and ISC databases. It also contains some Dirichlet Beta Functions at selected points of rational value on the real axis, and a finite table of Glebsch-Cordan coefficients.
• yields.html starts a Java applet that computes financial yields according to the recursion t(N)=t(N-1)*(1+p/100)+a, where 't(N)' is the value of an account after N periods (years), 'p' is the yield (in percent) after each period, 'a' an additional transfer to the account after each period, and t(0) the starting amount. See also the Investment Calculator of the Bank of Canada.
• gray.html is a Java applet which converts an input number given in binary, octal, decimal or hex standard representation into its Gray Code value or performs the inverse transformation, or just does the conversion to the other bases.
• dice.html starts a Java applet that successively generates new sets of random numbers by throwing dice with a variable numbers of faces, or generates random permutations of a small number of integers. It also calculates probability density functions and cumulative density functions of the Normal Gaussian probability distribution, the Chi² probability distribution and the Beta distribution; see also the Engineering Statistics Handbook the GNU Object-Oriented Statistics Environment , and the Interactive statistical tools .

Program Development

• rm_blank.l is a lex script which creates a filter that replaces blocks of multiple blank lines on input by single blank lines on output.
• mioInclude.pl is a perl script that expands cpp-style #include "file" statements by (recursively) replacing these include-statements by the files they name.
• doxygen2hdr is a perl script that converts the output of the doxygen parser into C header files. See also cextract .
• as2idate.c comprises two C-functions to provide the functionality of the idate(3F) and itime(3F) calls from within Fortran programs where those are missing in the system libraries.

LaTeX, BibTeX

• r2bib contains C, C++ and lex programs to convert EndNote files toBibTeX, and to redefine EndNote and RIS tags, and to recode DOS and ANSEL streams.
• rmtexcmt.sed is a sed program to eliminate comments from LaTeX sources, an aid to clean up the text before publication/submission.
• ijqc.bst is a is a BibTeX style file mimicking the Int J Quant Chem article citation style.
• aj.bst is a BibTeX style file mimicking the AJ article citation style.
• svjour.bst is a BibTeX style file mimicking the citation style of Springer journals.
• ba.bst is a BibTeX style file adapted to the citation style of Baltic Astronomy .
• iopart-num.bst is a BibTeX style file for IoP journals, derived from iopart-num.bst . bbl.sed is a sed script which compresses numbers separated by two dashes (interpreted as first and last page number of a reference) by removing a common starting string from the second number. This adapts BibTeX bbl files to the style of IoP publications.
• tMOP.bst is a BibTeX style file mimicking the J Mod Optics article citation style.
• tWRM.bst is a BibTeX style file mimicking the Waves Random Complex Media article citation style. The main difference to the publisher's version is that it does not produce error messages and that the incollection tags are also handled.
• bibutils.patch is a patch file to version 4.3 of bibutils . It changes the xml2ads output.
  To be applied with patch -p1 -d bibutils_4.3 < *.patch before running cd bibutils_4.3; ./configure ....

Unix, System Administration

• cFmt is a bash script to re-format the lines of its standard input with C-style format specifications provided by the command line arguments.
• passwgen.html is a Java applet to generate random passwords.
• ftruncate is a csh script to delete the leading lines in a Unix file "in place" such that the rest of the file becomes smaller than a given number of bytes.
• A help page on the ever recurring problem of submitting PostScript files to printer spoolers.
• inode is a shell script to search a directory tree for the file with a given i-node number.
• ftpdir is a shell script to transfer a subdirectory on the local computer recursively to another (remote) computer via ftp .
• splitfs is a perl script that accepts a total byte count and primary directory names as command line arguments and lists all files and directories found by recursively searching through those primary directories in report files in such a manner that the total size of the files listed in each of the report files does not exceed the given total byte count.
• ls2html is a ksh-script that reformats a UNIX directory listing (created with ls) into a HTML file. If used with the option -h, it works similar to list-files.pl .
• Gv is a csh script which calls gv(1) in a loop over all command line file name arguments.
• libXaw3d.sl is a the PA-RISC version of the Xaw3d-1.2 library compiled with cc under HP-UX 11.00. The trick is to place the ungzipped, untarred Xaw3d directory of the source code into /usr/contrib/X11R6/include/X11/Xaw3d, then edit the "EXTRA_INCLUDES=-I. -I/usr/contrib/X11R6/include" in the Imakefile, run "imake -I/opt/imake/config" and then "make" and "mv libXaw3d.sl /usr/contrib/X11R6/lib"
• tmspec2asc.c is a C program to convert a UNIX time specification given in seconds since 1970-1-1 into a human-readable date-hour format.

Graphics, PostScript

• mioFitsCnvrt.C , mioCCFITS.C , mioCCFITS.h , mioINDX_RANGE.C , mioINDX_RANGE.h , mioREGION.C and mioREGION.h are a C++ bundle to convert the images in the VLTI binary FITS table format into FITS cubes to facilitate handling with other FITS viewers . A makefile example is also provided. The cfitsio and CCFits libraries must be available.
• polplotpap.ps is a PostScript file to plot one sheet of paper with a grid for a polar plot. See also some Smith diagrams available from IHE , and the Cartesian/Polar/Logarithmic layouts from printfreegraphpaper.com .
• pcalyacc.tar is a lex-YACC preprocessor to pcal that expands lines with ranges of days of the form

  in its standard input such that the output are single day specifications recognized by pcal.
• colmap.tex is a LaTeX file that generates a RGB colormap by the use of \special's. rgbmap.ps is an equivalent PostScript file of just 2.5 kB size. Their main use is to get a feeling of which triple of RGB numbers generates which color on a particular printer. On SunSolaris see also showrgb(1) and bggen(1).
• digit.tcl is a wish (Tcl/Tk) script to display a pixel image (GIF, XBM,...) that contains a plot of a function (with linear or logarithmic abscissa and coordinate scales) and tabulates function values (including the conversion of pixel coordinates to physical units) to its standard output as the user clicks with the mouse through the pixel image. See also Dexter .
• gif2html is a shell script to assemble references to a number of GIF picture files into a HTML file, and to generate iconic versions on the fly by use of the ImageMagick convert command.

Recreational

• The Jar file ged2xml.jar contains a Java program which converts a gedcom 5.5.1 file into an xml or a LaTeX file.
• art.ps is a PostScript program which creates a modern painting on a A4 sheet of paper.
• musxblank1.pdf , musxblank2.pdf and musxblank3.pdf are three void pages to be filled with notes for a single instrument with one, two or three staffs. Similar to Notenpapierdownload.htm or google results .
• Tetra.ps.gz is a gzipped PostScript file which shows various polyhedra that can be created by intersecting two tetrahedra.
• FourWins.C is a C++ program to play the game FourWins against the computer (with an ASCII interface). It makes heavy use of the STL library.
• deskcal2 is a C-shell script to create a PostScript file of an unfolded Dodecahedron with a calendar of 12 months covering the 12 faces. The original by A Rogers has been enhanced by a scaling option, a colorizing option and a German/French/Spanish/Italian output option.
• magic_sq.c is a C program to search for semimagic squares that contain the integer numbers from 1 up to N² such that the algebraic sum of the numbers in each of the N rows or N columns is the same.
• queens.C is a C++ program that searches for solutions of the problem of placing queens on a N by N chess board such that each attacks exactly two other queens. This has been a recreational problem posed by Ken Duisenberg at June 28, 2000 and is related to sequence A051755 of the OEIS
