The tar file "sim1.tar.gz" contains the first very basic set of simulations created by Stephane Arnouts and to be used for the PHAT initiative (http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/~hendrik/PHAT/index.html). It is based on a template set consisting of six SEDs (CWW + two starburst templates from Kinney et al.). As a filter set we chose the CFHTLS filters ugriz, the near-IR filters YJHK modeled as idealised filter curves with the correct mean and width, and the IRAC 3.6mu and 4.5mu bands. Two catalogues are provided. First, a noise-free catalogue containing the redshift with colours for each SED at each redshift step (step size 0.05 in redshift). Second, a catalogue with an r<24 magnitude cut, additional noise, and the objects distributed according to SED dependent luminosity functions. In both catalogues the colours of the objects are altered by IGM absorption which is modeled after Madau 1995. The first, idealised catalogue should be used with the different photo-z codes to see whether the codes compute magnitudes in the same way. As soon as this is given, the second catalogue should be used to see whether this still holds for the case of non-zero noise and how the inevitable scatter compares between the different codes. We would like to ask you to return ASCII or FITS catalogues with just two basic columns, the number of the object as given in the original catalogues and the redshift estimate from your code. Furthermore, it would be good to also include a column describing the credibility of the redshift estimate, e.g. a confidence interval, a probability, or a flag. This allows for selecting cleaner subsamples and rejecting objects where something went obviously wrong. In the following the contents of the tar file are described: CWW_MOD.list : list of the template SEDs in the order as used in the noise-free catalogue SED.tar : tar file with the six template SEDs FILTERS.info : basic information about the filter set filters.tar : tar file with the 11 filter curves; the first column gives the wavelength in Angstrom, and the second column gives the sensitivity in units of photons (see discussion in the PHAT mailing list last year) noisefree.dat : catalogue containing the AB magnitudes of objects in the 11 filters with given redshift and without noise noise.dat : catalogue containing the AB magnitudes of objects in the 11 filters with added noise
