Brief Bio

A Born & Bred Aussie, I studied Science at Monash University obtaining my Bachelors of Science (Science Scholar Program) in 1997. In the summer of 97-98 I went to Sydney University to do a summer scholarship. I stayed on in Monash one more year to obtain my Honours in Astrophysics in 1998, working with Dr. Tony Lun on Gravitational Wave emission from moving Black Holes. In the summer of 98-99 I was a summer scholar at ANU, working with Dr. Geoff Bicknell on e-pair jets.

After one year spent doing research & teaching at Monash and half a year backpacking around Europe (like most Aussies), I started my PhD at the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (Mt. Stromlo Observatory), Australian National University (ANU). There, under the "tutelage" of Mike Dopita and Ralph Sutherland, I completed my PhD thesis in 2004, looking at the effects of and emission from dust in photoionized nebulae, with additional forays into HI bubbles and AGN outflows.

From 2004-2006 I was a Postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astropysics in Garching-bei-München, working with Dr. Guinevere Kauffmann on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), in particular the emission line galaxies.

Since 2006, I have been a postdoctoral fellow at the Sterrewacht Leiden, Leiden University, with the first two years as a Leiden Postdoc with Dr. Bernhard Brandl, and currently as a NOVA fellow. Here, I have been continuing my research into the IR emission from galaxies, concentrating especially on the mid-IR observed by the Spitzer-IRS, as well as looking at several other topics, including waiting in anticipation for Herschel data to be available.
