PN.S public web: data

PN.S catalogues.

The PN.S observations result in measurements of the positions, radial velocities and fluxes of O[III] emission-line sources in the target galaxies. These are obtained by analysing pairs of counter-dispersed, slitless images of a field 11x11 arcmin in size, in a narrow wavelength range centered on the O[III] line at 500.7nm.

Because the instrument employs a narrow-band filter, only objects within a redshift range of typically 2000km/s wide can be detected. The catalogues should be complete far from the target galaxy centres, apart from sources which happen to coincide with the dispersed spectra of foreground stars, but in the inner regions of the galaxies the catalogues will be incomplete because of two effects: the increased background from diffuse starlight, and the occasional ambiguity in identifying the matching counter-dispersed images.

Velocities are typically accurate to 20km/s, with a calibration uncertainties of about 20km/s. The emission line fluxes are at present uncertain by up to 0.5 mag. Astrometric errors are typically 1 arcsec along the dispersion direction, half that in the perpendicular direction. See the papers for details.

Each catalogue lists positions, observed wavelength, heliocentric radial velocity, and 5007 magnitude, for all detected emission-line objects that are consistent with being point-like, and for which a velocity could be obtained.
