Astronomers visit Herschel
Friday May 30 a group of Leiden astronomers visited ESTEC in Noordwijk to view the Herschel telescope as it is being assembled in one of the ESA clean rooms. After an interesting colloquium bij Göran Pilbratt, the ESA Herschel Project Scientist, the astronomers saw the satellite as it stood upright in the clean room. After a thorough inspection of the heat shield and solar panels the LSS (Large Space Simulator) chamber was visited at the time another satellite was 'mangled' in a vibration stress test.
