Research assistantships for 'Master of Astronomy' students.

Each year, a limited number of student research assistantships are available at the Sterrewacht. Master-students may apply for a part-time appointment as assistant for the duration of their final research project at the Observatory.

The appointment will usually be for 10 hours per week (app. Eu 520,-- per month) during a period not exceeding 12 months, for students in the 'Research in Astronomy' specialisation. For students in the other specialisations the possibility of a shorter appointment not exceeding 6 months may be considered under the condition that the scientific content of the research project is sufficient.

To be eligible for an assistantship students must fulfill a number of requirements regarding study performance:

  • excellent study results
  • good progress
  • initial (minor) research project finalized (Research track)
  • available for support tasks within the Observatory
  • work permit (non-EU students)

They should apply before starting their major research project by handing a declaration of suitability signed by the MSc Student Advisor.

Students who have just started their research project can request a transition arrangement.

Recipients of Huygens and Oort fellowships will only be considered in exceptional cases.
