College van Bestuur

The College van Bestuur - CvB is the governing board of Leiden University and is directly above the Faculties. It has three members:

• 1. The Rector Magnificus; the position corresponds roughly to that of Chancellor, and is currently filled by Prof. mr. Paul F. van der Heijden. He has the responsibility for academic affairs and standards. Another responsibility of the rector is to preside at promoties, the formal Ph.D examinations held at the main University building (Academie gebouw) on the Rapenburg, although he often delegates this task to one of the Faculty deans.
